Online universities are popping up left and right. In fact, today you will see more advertising and marketing of online universities than brick and mortar schools. It is absolutely fantastic that potential students have such a selection to choose from but what do they base their decision on? Let’s face it; the cost of college is one of the expensive investments that a person will make during their lifetime. They surely need to make sure that their chosen school is all that it says that it is.

We have all heard the term accreditation and know that it is extremely important to attend an accredited university. What many of you do not know is that it is much more important if a school is regionally accredited as it will automatically be nationally accredited. Regional accreditation is much more difficult to obtain than national accreditation. So put that on your list.

Another factor to take into consideration when choosing your online university is its reputation. Take a look around on the web and, of course, take a look at the Best Online Colleges at Degree Jungle. What are other student and graduates saying? Which schools are meeting the expectations of students and which are not? The web offers a wealth of information so take some time and surf and research. Make sure to compare rating sights with one another.

Consider your Major

As you are searching and evaluating online universities make sure to consider your planned major. You certainly do not want to attend a school that is known for business and marketing degrees when you plan to pursue a nursing degree. Be practical.

Mode of Delivery

Another important point is to research to find what the classroom or material mode of delivery is. Are the classrooms live where you will need to be online at a specific time or do you have a syllabus and calendar of due dates that you need to utilize to submit your deliverables. This all matters and you are in a position to customize your entire degree according to your personal schedule and needs.

Finally, make sure to take a look at the cost and compare the cost of several online universities and also brick and mortar schools. This is probably one of the most important areas to consider as you certainly do not want to be strapped financially with high balance and high interest student loans when you graduate. Take your time and shop around.

Go ahead and make yourself a form to use with topics that I have mentioned. Set it up in a way that is easy for you so that you can sit down and have all of the gathered data at your fingertips for comparison. If you are completely Excel savvy I suggest that you put it all into a spreadsheet. Take your time to make your decision and remember that you are paying the school to provide you with the information and resources to enable you to become successful in your chosen profession.
